The Incontro degli Italianisti in Irlanda is taking place on the 8th of February 2025 at University College Dublin and the Italian Cultural Institute Dubline (see the programme below).
The event provides Irish-based Italianists with a platform to meet and discuss the most pressing issues within the discipline. Three themes—funding for and the future of the humanities in Ireland, AI in teaching and research, and global Italian Studies—are at the core of this year’s meeting. The event will also offer early-career scholars the opportunity to present their projects and expand their academic networks.
This year, the Incontro will feature a special guest, the writer Dario Ferrari, who will present his book La ricreazione è finita (Sellerio, 2023) at the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin. The novel’s protagonist is a PhD student navigating the complexities of academia. This event, open to the public, offers general audiences a unique insight into academic life while inviting scholars to engage in a meaningful discussion about the challenges faced by early-career researchers.
